My personal highlight reel

Just like every other freelancer just starting out, I don't run my business full-time yet. I work odd jobs around (downtown) Tulsa while constantly seeking jobs on Upwork, drafting emails to local organizations to advertise myself (professionally, of course), and occasionally browsing LinkedIn—even though I'm not that active and don't like social media. I have a wild background that includes forklift training and translating Korean manuals. Click here to view my résumé and portfolio.

Some fun facts about me are:

  • I like mushroom coffee.
  • I suck at cooking hamburgers.
  • I lived in South Korea for five years after college.
  • I have experience translating Korean web novels and manuals dealing with machinery (not as cool as it sounds, though).
  • I am a member of the Professional Editors Network.
  • I took a LONG break from writing and editing (2022-2024).
  • My favorite song is "Junkhead" by Alice In Chains.
  • I am a horror movie fanatic.

Résumé magic for landing your dream gig

Writing a résumé can be downright intimidating. It is technical, structured, and leaves no room to present your creative writing abilities. After re-writing dozens of versions of my résumé over the years, I learned that it has to follow format rules. It also hasn't hurt that I've watched and studied several webinars and modules on the National Résumé Writers Association's website.

You're probably saying, "Bro. An AI bot can write my résumé." Okay, but does an AI bot have a connection with you? Nope. Does an AI bot make you feel safe and valued? Probably not. Is an AI bot interested in you? Of course not. I'll tell you one thing: Humans learn when human connections are made

Plenty of people struggle with résumés, especially the marginalized: nontraditional college students, veterans, homeless professionals, the elderly, English-language learners, and those with a criminal background. You get what I'm getting at, right? These are the people most vulnerable to employment-related discrimination. Your résumé doesn't have to suck if you fall into one of these categories. Let's work together and get your career on track!

Sniffing out typos in your manuscript

If you're still with me, thanks for your patience. I came to grips with grammar and content consistency while teaching English and translating. I do admit that I wasn't the best translator because it isn't some skill you magically acquire once you become good at a second language (I learned that the hard way). I did, however, enjoy editing my own work and other translators' work.

As cliche as it is, I love reading. Since I was a kid, I have enjoyed printed words. While I do not have a favorite book genre in particular, my favorite books are Lost City of Z, Gone with the Wind, Angels and Demons, Stephen King's It, and Rebel with a Clause. There are plenty more, but you get the idea. Books are best for me when they are typeset and formatted for leisure reading. That is where I come in. When I have some skin in the game, I'll explore developmental editing and book coaching.

Also, my awesome Korean skills put me ahead of that other proofreader you were thinking of hiring. Why? Learning a second language increases:

  • cognitive abilities
  • creativity
  • decision-making abilities
  • career opportunities
  • brain growth
  • cultural exchange
  • self-esteem
  • skills in your first language

I don't offer translation services, but I am especially open to all Korean clients.
